Grad school

PhD Propaganda

Author: guerson

Born and raised in Brazil, a Canadian stole my heart and took me to Canada in 1999. After seven years between Montreal and Toronto, we then moved to Barcelona, Spain, where I did research for my PhD thesis. This blog began as a chronicle of our adventures while living in Barcelona and exploring the old world and has acquired a life of its own after we moved back to Canada.

  1. Hey Alex,

I came here through the link you posted in the “Go Canada” community and couldn’t help but post a comment on this propaganda.

I really love Jorge Cham comic books, he’s come to the u of a three times in the last three years in his summer tours, and I got all his comics signed! It’s hilarious! The funny thing is the similarity of his sketches with the real life of a phd student anywhere in north america… it’s richly accurately depicted!

Which area are you doing your phd in?

ps: Jen P., this is the comics’ joke! P.H.D. is intended to be a misleading joke between “Piled Higher and Deeper” and “Philosophy Doctor”!

  2. Alexandre,

I love his comics too – thus the rss feeds on my widgets bar on the right – although they relate mostly to people doing PhD in science. But a lot of the stuff can be applied to those of us in the humanities and social sciences.

I’m doing a PhD in history; I study Christian-Jewish relations in late medieval Spain.

    Welcome to the blog!
