Remember all the controversy over the official photo of the Spanish Basketball team doing “slit eyes” during last Olympics?
Well, there was a lot of controversy, as you can imagine. The Spanish defended it saying that they didn’t mean it in a negative way and therefore it couldn’t be deemed racist.
Looks like Brazilians agreed because this is how the number one TV station in the country chose to advertise its new primetime soap opera.
I found the discussion on the blog above interesting – all of the Brazilian readers don’t see any harm done while the non-Brazilian (perhaps all American, maybe some Europeans) readers are simply shocked. I also find it interesting that one can say that something is not racist just because it is “normal” and “everybody does it” and it is done just “for fun”.
