Three years of blogging

As I have mentioned before, this blog originated as a way of staying in touch with family and friends during our year in Spain between April 2006 and May 2007. Writing a blog led me to read other blogs and in many ways it has become the way I stay engaged with the world outside university. Writing a thesis can be an isolating experience and not being the kind to like isolation, this has been my way of ensuring that my road towards the PhD remains a positive one.

Thank you to all of you who come by, visit, and leave comments. This blog has allowed me to meet some truly amazing people. I’ll leave you with a TED talk on blogging by one of the founders of Movable Type, one of the first blogging platforms.

Born and raised in Brazil, a Canadian stole my heart and took me to Canada in 1999. After seven years between Montreal and Toronto, we then moved to Barcelona, Spain, where I did research for my PhD thesis. This blog began as a chronicle of our adventures while living in Barcelona and exploring the old world and has acquired a life of its own after we moved back to Canada.

  1. Oi Alexandra,
Sempre venho aqui mas nunca comento! Hoje resolvi deixar a vergonha de lado! :-)
    Um abraco,
    Marisa

Welcome!! Obrigada por deixar um recado. You have no idea how happy I get when someone who’s been reading the blog a while decides to leave a comment ;)

      Beijos!

  3. Hi again,

I’ll try not to be shy and post comments often then :-)

I also really enjoy your blog posts about food! I’m a big foodie and a huge fan of Michael Pollan. Over the years, cooking real food has turned into my main escape from PhD stress.

Bom resto de domingo ai’ no Canada!
    Beijos from the UK

  4. Parabens, Alex!

BB é um excelente cartão de visitas!

    Tudo de bom.

  6. Congratulations!

As I’ve said on orkut before I love reading your posts, and I think you have a lot to say and teach! Wish I could not only read your blog, but also take your class.. any plans on coming to BC??

I’ve had a blog for 3 years now too, but I’ve had periods when I wrote and didn’t care about external opinions, and times when I didn’t want to expose myself. But I’m coming back!

    Have a good week!
